Rabindranath Tagore's influence on Bengali culture in the twentieth century is immense.  Amartya Sen, a Nobel laureate economist and philosopher, described Rabindranath as a "Himalayan figure" and a "deeply relevant and multidimensional contemporary philosopher".  During his lifetime, Rabindranath gained immense popularity in Europe, North America and East Asia.  He was instrumental in founding a progressive co-educational institution in England called Dartington Hall School.  Of these, the name of Yasunari Kawabata is particularly noteworthy.  Anubravi also translated Spanish-speaking writers, including Chilean writers Pablo Neruda and Gabriela Mistral, Mexican writer Octavio Paz and Spanish writers Jos Ortega y Gasset, Thenobia Kamprubi Aymar, and Juan Ramon Himeneth.  Between 1914 and 1922, the Hymeneth-Kamprubi couple translated twenty-two of Rabindranath's books from English to Spanish.  They also published detailed reviews and Spanish editions of several of Rabindranath's works, including The Crescent Moon (Shishu Bholanath).  It was during this time that Hymenath invented a special literary style called "nude poetry" (Spanish: «poesía desnuda»)

 Many Western writers and literary critics who had not read Rabindranath's original Bengali poetry also denied the importance of Rabindranath.  Graham Greene commented skeptically, "No one takes Mr. Rabindranath's writings seriously except Mr. Yates." Some old Latin American fragments in honor of Rabindranath have recently been discovered.  During a trip to Nicaragua, Salman Rushdie was surprised to see some such examples. 

Dissatisfaction during 1937-41

Rabindranath, who possessed an upright shawl-like body, enjoyed good health all his life but suffered from chronic illness for the last four years of his life.  His main problem was hemorrhoids.  Twice in these four years he had to stay in bed in a very sick state for a long time.  The poet once lost consciousness in 1938;  This time he went into a coma and witnessed death from very close.  And since then the onset of his long illness.  He fell ill again in the late 1940s.  This time he did not recover.  During this period Rabindranath wrote some of the best poems of his life.  Among these poems are some of Rabindranath's most memorable lines written about death.  It is to be noted that the poet was born and raised in this house of Jorasanko.
